One-card Universal Readings

Nothing is more minimalist than the one card reading. It is the most straightforward answer to a straightforward question. It’s also a versatile way to do readings. So when is it best to use one card or throw down more?

Yes/No Questions – While tarot isn’t the best option for yes/no questions, you can use it to get an answer. Ask you question, shuffle, and pick one card. Ask yourself: What is the tone of the card? Is it a positive card (like the Sun, Star, 3 of Cups, 4 of Wands, 6 of Wands, etc) or a negative card (like the Devil, Death, 3 of Swords, 10 of Wands, 5 of Coins, etc). The tone of the card gives you the yes or the no. Next look at the meaning of the card; the meaning gives you the why this is the answer. Example: You do a yes/no reading and draw the Star. Yes this is going to happen because you have spent the time laying the foundation that will yield positive results.

What do I need to know right now? – Every time we run into a roadblock or an upset to our plan, we ask how do I deal with this? And, yes you can do a multi-card spread to get the down and dirty details about how to navigate the situation. But sometimes you need that quick and dirty, concrete answer. Shuffle the cards and ask What do I need to know right now? Use this simple reading to begin to formulate a concrete plan of action; you can come back later and explore it in more detail.

Why? – Going along with What I need to know right now one-card reading you want to know why. There is a quick method to figure out the why. The Trumps are the Why cards; take the action card from above and look at the corresponding Trump. That is going to give you the why things are happening the way they are.

One-card readings are not always the most appropriate, sometimes you need to get into the weeds and explore the detailed depths of a situation. But sometimes you just need a quick one-card answer. Give it a try and see what you get.
